In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

In its twenty-second session for the academic year 2022-2023, the College of Engineering at the University of Babylon received Dr. Abbas Fadel Hussain, the Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department at the Presidency of the University of Babylon. The guest speaker provided a detailed explanation on how to fill out the performance evaluation form for scientific departments number 4 on 3/8/2023, which will be opened at the beginning of the new academic year on 10/9/2023. Recently, the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department at the University of Babylon held a training workshop on the electronic system data for evaluating university performance.
