In 1988, the College of Engineering became the first engineering college in the densely populated Middle Euphrates region. The departments of civil, and mechanical engineering were the first to be established, followed by the departments of electrical, chemical, environmental, architecture, and biomedical engineering.

"Under the theme of Architectural Creativity: Vision and Embodiment, the Architecture Department Festival is being organized at the College of Engineering. This festival is sponsored by the esteemed President of the University, Professor Dr. Qahtan Al-Jubouri, and is supervised by the respected Dean of the College of Engineering, Professor Dr. Hatem Hadi Al-Taie. The festival coincides with the university's celebration of its thirty-first founding anniversary. It includes various artistic and folkloric exhibitions, as well as presentations of projects by fifth-year students. Tuesday, May 10, 2022, is set as the date for this splendid event."
